Akaushi Beef healthier meat which is big on taste
As of next week (Monday 5th July 2021) we are thrilled and excited to be working with a WA family run, pioneering beef business. After lengthy discussions and ‘getting to know’ each other we can definitely say, our values align!
Adding incredibly flavoursome beef cuts to our Seasonal Produce box, we know this choice will be a winner in our Perth customers households.
The original Melaleuka Farm is also the site of their flagship venue, C.Y. O’Connor Village Pub, which is located south of the river in Piara Waters and was acquired by the family in the 1940’s. In the courtyard here, you’ll find the original cottage that was home to the first Farm Manager and also many of the Dawkins family over the years.
Since acquiring the initial farming land in Piara Waters, the family have grown the farm and progressively moved the main operation to the Peel region – primarily North Dandalup but also Nambeelup and Waroona.
The farm comprises approximately 5,000 acres and runs 2,000 head of predominantly Akaushi (aka Japanese Brown or Red Wagyu).
Melaleuka Farm is at the forefront working with this breed in Australia. Through their research collaboration with the CY O’Connor Research Foundation they’re continuing to learn more about improving the quality and health (in particular around improving cholesterol impacts) by selecting for animals with a low melting temperature of fat – a common characteristic of this relatively unknown breed.
The family’s five Perth hospitality venues are constantly adapting their menus with the aim of making Melaleuka Farm beef ‘nose-to-tail’ to ensure minimum waste.
Melaleuka Farm is a true vertically-integrated, paddock-to-plate operation. Aligning agronomic, economic, environmental and food science studies with the needs of end-users to meet intake standards, raw product requirements and the characteristics that make their beef both delicious and nutritious.
You’ll be able to browse the range and order beef from us next Monday! Meanwhile, take a look at what we offer now.
Ordering opens every week at midday on Monday and closes at 8.00pm on Wednesday.
