Below & Above Pinot Noir 2019

A seductive perfumed nose of black cherry, strawberry, star anise and florals of rose with a background touch of spices and truffle like characters. The palate is medium-bodied creamy and refined. Combined with firm, fine and chalky tannins reaches effortlessly to a long finish. It has the structure and poise to handle further aging.

Family owned Below & Above is a vineyard (the 'above') and truffle (the 'below') producing estate in Pemberton in WA's Southern Forests region.

Producing Chardonnay, Merlot and Pinot Noir from a vineyard that was first planted in the mid 1990's and has had significant re plantings of new clones since.

A nearby property planted with French oak, English oak and English poplar trees produces the famed black truffles of the region.

Only the best five percent of their estate grown fruit is used for the Below & Above range of wines with the rest being sold of to other wineries.

REVIEWS 2019 Pinot Noir

Ray Jordan - The West Australian 2023

These pinot’s from Below &Above are starting to kick some serious goals. This one is a beauty. Meaty sour cherry aromas with a trace of that truffle mushroom complexity. Then the palate, which is medium weight, has such a posey and structure. The fine bony tannis and deft use of oak focus and sustained long finish.

Score: 94/100 – Will cellar 9 years

The West Australian Wine Guide 2023
Paul Edwards (and co)

WA pinot continues to improve and the cluster of Pemberton vineyards including Below & Above lead the way. This pinot exudes the signature lightly smokey, earthy aroma so sought by pinot lovers. Red berries, tobacco leaf a dusting of oak and the French affection known as sous bas (or forest floor). This is no lightweight though with a plumpness to the midpalate and a fine grained long finale.

Score: 94/100 – Can be enjoyed next 5 years
