The People

The People

Step into the world of truffle cultivation, where it’s more than just a passion – it’s a way of life. On this tour, you’ll be granted exclusive access to the first-ever trufferie in Manjimup. With the help of expertly trained truffle dogs, you’ll dive into the art of truffle hunting, then learn to gauge the quality of this elusive fungi. But it’s not just about the producers and makers, as you’ll get the chance to connect with like-minded appreciators of food. There’s always something to talk about!

The Place

The Place

The heart of the Southern Forests region is renowned for its perfect conditions for growing high-quality truffles, particularly the prized black Périgord truffle. This area has been successful due to it’s ideal Mediterranean climate – cool, wet winters and dry summers. Plus, well-drained alkaline soil provides an ideal environment for a unique symbiotic fungal relationship with oak tree roots. The Manjimup area is one of the premier truffle-producing areas outside of Europe.

“Thank you again for a really interesting experience. I found it fascinating to hear about the backgrounds of the different producers that we met, and their visions and ambitions to produce foods and wine. We are so spoiled in this country with such a diversity of peoples and tastes. I also appreciate how much the “Australian Palate” has changed (improved and diversified) since I first arrived here in 1974. I am sure you are contributing to that.”
