Southern Forests Western Australia - Spring

Thursday 22nd to Saturday 26th October 2026

The real story of great food begins long before it reaches the plate - and we invite you to see something truly special for yourself on a Southern Forests Food and Wine Tour in Western Australia.

Over three days you’ll gain rare access to working farms and small food producers, share memorable meals in beautiful rural settings, and experience one of our state’s most fertile food regions from the inside.
For more than a decade we’ve been exploring this region and building trusted relationships with the farmers, growers and makers who shape its food story. Tracey’s background as a professional chef and Anthony’s agricultural experience allow you to look at food from both sides of the plate – how it’s grown, and how it becomes something truly delicious.

What's in store on this food adventure

Where Flavour Begins

Where Flavour Begins

Spring brings a wonderful freshness to the Southern Forests. The region’s fertile soils and cool forest climate produce fruit, dairy, vegetables and pasture-raised meats that are naturally rich in flavour.

Throughout the tour we enjoy food in many different settings – from a relaxed farm shearing-shed lunch and generous country dining to a vineyard dinner cooked by me!

There’s great coffee to start the day, a peaceful picnic beneath towering karri trees, and meals that celebrate the season and the people who grow the ingredients.

Warmth and Country Charm

Warmth and Country Charm

One of the real joys of this tour is the chance for you to meet the people behind the food. We’re welcomed into farms and small food businesses where growers and makers generously share their work, ethics and ideas.

We spend time with regenerative farmers raising pasture-fed hens who lay the best eggs, visit an award-winning dairy where cows choose when they’re milked, and meet artisan chocolate makers deep in the forest. Along the way we also encounter inventive food thinkers – from a pioneering avocado oil producer to a young baker transforming overlooked produce into exceptional pantry staples.

From the Source, With Skill

From the Source, With Skill

Protected by towering karri forests, the Southern Forests is one of Western Australia’s most productive agricultural regions. Deep rich soils, cool temperatures and generous rainfall create ideal conditions for growing nutrient-dense food.

Travelling through the region reveals orchards, pasture, vineyards and forest sitting comfortably alongside one another. In spring the countryside feels vibrant and full of life – farms busy with new growth and the landscape quietly showing why this corner of WA produces such remarkable food.

Ready to pack your bags?

Over three days you’ll eat in a way that truly nourishes — food grown with integrity, flavour and deep care for the land. Guests often tell us they return home inspired and energised with a continuing curiosity about how food is grown and who grows it.

This is far more than a tour — it’s a chance to step behind the farm gate, share memorable meals in beautiful places and enjoy a relaxed mix of discovery, conversation and good company.

“Our tour to Manjimup was very eye opening for a number of reasons. Meeting the farmers, who all love and respect the land so dearly, was very special.  To see the young 3rd or 4th generation farmers who want to farm the land with modern knowledge yet respect for those who have farmed the land before them.  To enjoy wonderful meals each day at local restaurants where the ingredients were from paddock to plate was a real delight. The producers also instilled in us the ability to use the entire product to its best advantage. What we left with was a deep respect for the producers and a feeling of being more at one with the land.”

“Very grateful to Matters of Taste for a wonderful adventure onto the lands and into the hearts & minds of an eclectic mix of Southern Forrest food producers. Great stories from all the places we visited and the farmers or makers of the region. Tracey and Anthony are wonderful hosts. If you love food and hearing from the people behind the brand, this is a great experience”.

“Thank you so much for a wonderful trip. I had an extremely awful year experiencing a terrible trauma in my workplace. Your trip showed me that however bad things are wonderful food brings lovely people together. I enjoyed it so much and will definitely come again next year.”

“Again, so carefully and cleverly planned. Not a moment wasted but never rushed. Even some rests included as needed. Such a wise move to substitute coffee and snack for breakfast. Tracey and Anthony so patient and helpful and client-focussed, guests want for nothing. Interesting and varied visits, really put us in touch with where our food comes from, which is vanishingly rare and so vital. Farmers etc. so friendly and informative and go to so much trouble to look after us. Great social trip with like-minded folks all out to have a good time. I would go again and again, for the fun of it.”

“Second time it was just as good as the first. I learnt a lot from everyone even though some visits I had been to in the first tour. Tracey and Anthony are very good hosts and made the trip great from beginning to end. Loved all the farms dogs, what characters. I would go on it a third time. ” 😀
